31 Weeks, 9 (or 11) to go!

It's been a loooong time since I updated.  Sorry!  Everything's been going great.  We settled on the name Owen Eugene.  He's a major squirmer and thoroughly enjoys nuzzling into my ribcage and sticking his toes in my sides, much like his dad.  What is it with guys warming their feet under your legs or butt?  It's really uncomfortable.

We're getting more and more anxious for the arrival of this little guy.  We're usually excited, but we have occasional bouts of insomnia (Andrew) and emotional breakdowns (Hayley) that remind us how nervous we really are for the change that lies not-too-far ahead.  We took a childbirth preparation class two weeks ago.  It was really informative, as well as very overwhelming.  Shortly after this class we attended a breastfeeding class.  I, personally, found this to be even MORE overwhelming than the childbirth class, but I suppose I'll have to get past that.  I've come to find that, as much as women looooove to share their childbirth horror stories, they enjoy even more sharing their tales of cracked and blistered nipples.  What do I do?  Fake-smile and nod.  Why do we (women) insist on sharing scary things?  And just because it happened to you does NOT mean it happens to every woman, I'm sorry to inform you.

Anyway, my apologies for the gross part of that paragraph.

Andrew and I spent a lovely weekend in Boise recently, celebrating a "babymoon" of sorts.  Hawaii would have been better, but we couldn't drive there.  We were able to eat at lots of yummy restaurants, do some Owen shopping and see a great movie (True Grit, see it.)  We're both uber-conscious of the fact that a lot of new parents don't make time for each other to foster their marriage, and this is very important to us.  So wish us luck!  Thank heaven for grandmas and grandpas living nearby, which will make it entirely more possible for us to go on dates.

Some new data I've gathered about Owen:
1.) He's as hyperactive as his father, if it's at all possible, and chooses lunch time and late-night to be his jumpiest.
2.) He likes to nudge me back when I poke at him.
3.) He likes to stick his tiny bum straight out of my belly button.
4.) He tends to make his bed on the right side of my body.
5.) He loves when I lay on my side, as it provides a trampoline-like effect and he can bounce off the mattress.
6.) He's looking quite tall, according to the ultrasound tech.
7.) He refuses to move for his dad.  Andrew can stare and touch all he wants, but this kid is a rebel and doesn't want to show off his moves to anyone but his mama.
8,) According to babycenter.com, the average baby weighs roughly 3 pounds right now.  This means Owen probably weighs 4, because he's coming from two families of huge babies.  Let's just hope he gets Andrew's pinhead and not my giant buffalo head.

That is all for now!

  1. Don't you love listening to everyone's stories? If I tell mine, I always remind the ladies that's it's only my experience and everyone's is different. I also love how WOMEN like to tell each other they look fat. There's a baby in there ugo! Anyways, you're going to do great and it's good that you guys know and understand how important your marriage and time away from Owen is. Keep going on date nights and if his grandparents are busy (yeah right), we're right down the street and owe you a ton!
